What happened today? Oh, NBD, just the Boston Fricking Marathon!

Did you watch the Boston Marathon this morning? I woke up at 5:20 a.m. to find Universal Sports (which was airing coverage nationwide) on my HD receiver and was temporarily crushed to find out (1) I don’t have Universal Sports and would therefore have to watch the race on a laptop or my iPad, and (2) that Boston Athletic Association’s live stream didn’t start until 6:30 a.m.

Urr, um… what am I going to do for an hour that early in the morning that won’t wake my family? If you said “go out for a run,” you would be correct in general, but wrong about me. I ran three days in a row since Friday and my left knee’s feeling funky, so I curled up on the sofa and caught up on Facebook and Twitter.

Finally 6:30 a.m. rolled around and the BAA’s live stream started. And right from the start the race was phenomenal. Shalane Flanagan led until Newton Hills and, even though she fell back (serious sad face on my part), she still snagged a PR and finished with a phenomenal time. And Meb? How great was THAT?!

Capture from the NY Times.

Seriously—Meb Keflezhigi’s incredible lead and then fight to the finish, topped off by his victory? Oh—and the fact that he’s 38? Amazing and inspiring.

And my friend Katy, whose Dream Big! fundraising story I shared last week?

She finished with an amazing 3:31:35, a PR!

Not only is she one tough mother runner and dedicated fundraiser, she is also famous because I saw her on the live feed at the race start in Hopkington.

I am inspired. It may not happen this spring at Newport, but it will happen. Oh yes it will.

Boston Qualifier, I am coming for you.
