Happy (almost) Fourth of July, y’all!
There’s a lot of crummy, depressing stuff in the news right now which I will restrain myself from mentioning to avoid further living up to my reputation as Debbie Downer. Fortunately, there have also been several funny videos circulating to (partially) counteract the bad news.
Last night, I caught this mock-PSA by Studio C, “The Truth of Running,” about the dangers of distance running. It’s pretty damn funny:
Sometimes I feel like the kids in this video. For example, I don’t hide my penchant for going on race-registration sprees, but let’s just say I don’t advertise it to (non-runner) friends and family.
Do you watch “Drunk History” on Comedy Central? It just started its second season and it is friggin’ hilarious.
This clip from the first episode of Season Two is about Claudette Colvin, the “real” Rosa Parks (watch and see to understand):I’m more than a little embarrassed to admit that I had never heard of Claudette Colvin until watching this video, but I’m sure I’m not alone. Unfortunately, the above video is only a portion of what aired on the “Drunk History” episode and doesn’t include the funniest part (hint: there’s a Burning Man reference). I highly recommend you watch the whole episode on Comedy Central On Demand.
…And that’s all I’ve got this Thursday, the day before the holiday. I’m not running in our local Independence Day 5K (damn it) because I think its uber-speedy course would be too much for my fragile adductors to handle, but I’ll have my own little slooow 5K tomorrow morning. If you’re racing tomorrow, good luck and run as fast as Paul Revere’s horse! I hope you have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
Have you watched any funny videos lately? Are you running in a 4th of July race? Which one?
