Things I’m Loving Right Now: Daylight Savings’ End Edition

Gah! Anyone else struggling with Daylight Savings ending? On the one hand, I’m enjoying brightness at 7:00 a.m. again, but the early darkness is already bothering me. In the Pacific Northwest, it’s getting dark around 4:45 p.m. By 5:15, it’s pitch black. And it’s only the beginning of November! By the Winter Solstice on December 21, PNW’ers will enjoy only about 8 hours of daylight. Ugh.ecard daylight savings

To keep up my spirits during these dark and dreary days, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the things that keep me happy. So, without further ado, here are the things I’m loving right now:

Taylor Swift’s “1989”

I know–cheeseball! My husband frequently rolls his eyes at my musical choices, especially the pop music I like for running and working out… and singing in the car at the top of my lungs. My newest favorite album/husband-torture-device is Taylor Swift’s latest.Photo Nov 05, 8 42 18 AM

Best songs on “1989?” I like”Welcome to New York” and “Shake It Off” the most; those songs will fit quite nicely on any running playlist.  As with my last favorite, Beyoncé’s eponymous album, I purchased my T.S. CD at my local Starbucks. Because I’m old.

Oh, and apparently there’s a remedy for old-ish fans of Taylor Swift:
You know you friggin’ love her.  That said, I don’t plan on buying any 50s-era bikini bottoms anytime soon.

Crispin Blackberry Pear cider

Booze! I don’t think I’ve ever had an alcoholic item featured as a much-loved thing, but there’s a first time for everything. This cider is magical. It tastes like a big juicy blackberry warmed in the sun, except it’s cold and refreshing. Ahh… Crispin describes this product as “[n]aturally elegant and refreshingly adult….” Hmm. Sounds just like me!

“Marry Me”

I cannot remember the last time a network sitcom made me laugh out loud. Even “30 Rock,” which I really enjoy, has never made me laugh out as spontaneously and frequently as the new “Marry Me” on NBC. I consider myself a TV snob, watching primarily shows on HBO (“Veep!” Holla!), AMC, BBC America, and Netflix. But the witty and rapid-fire quips on “Marry Me”–as well as it’s physical gags–continue to surprise me. I love this show!

The Vince Ribbed Pencil Dress

Vince Ribbed Pencil Dress

A couple of weeks ago I ran into Nordstrom to pick up some alterations and I happened to discover my favorite section of the store had discounted almost all of its items by 20% for one day only. I was in a big hurry and didn’t have time to shop, but I spied a classic black sheath by Vince and considered how it would fill a hole in my wardrobe. The following day, I went online and saw it was still on sale. I read the reviews, which were universally positive. The reviewers ranged in age from their 30s to their 60s, and everyone commented on how flattering the dress was. I was sold. I ended up ordering one and I fell into official dress-love.

I’m not usually a fan of ribbing (being the semi-proud owner of a mom-belly), but the ribbing on this dress is surprisingly slimming. The hemline, which falls just below the knee, makes me look tall, and the modest neckline is classic and chic. I can wear the dress out for an evening as easily as wearing it to the office.

What TV shows are you loving right now? What are your current favorite songs? What’s the last item of clothing you purchased that you just lurrrve?

  1. I love that dress! Beautiful!

I do love me some Taylor Swift, but for some reason that Shake It Off song doesn’t do it for me. I will have to listen to the rest of the album!

Also, Daylight Savings makes me grouchy.

    • Thanks!

That song should annoy me, but it doesn’t. I think it goes back to hearing it during the SeaWheeze. Those girls from Iviva (sp?) were dancing to it and it was like aural cotton candy.

  2. Okay, I pre-ordered 1989 on iTunes so that I could have it automatically downloaded by the time I woke up on its release day…listened to the whole thing during my next long run. 🙂 LOVE it and I’m no longer ashamed to say it; my husband likes some of her stuff and tolerates the rest as long as I don’t make him listen for too long – ha! I’m still embroiled in “Scandal” (slowly catching up to the current season) and also watching “How To Get Away With Murder,” which I really like, so far. I almost watched an episode of “Marry Me” last night; will definitely watch it now! The daylight savings thing is not SUCH a bummer here yet, but it will be pretty soon…it’ll be almost dark when I leave work, which makes me want to go home, put on pajamas and not do a thing. Thanks, Molly!!
