I’m trying something new after almost one year of blogging: Every Wednesday I’m going to review my workouts for the past week. I figure it will help keep me on track and accountable. I recently started recording my workouts in my brand-new Believe Training Journal, which I love, and blogging about my workouts will be an offshoot of that.
I haven’t been wearing my Garmin regularly because I’m trying to not to focus on my pace as much as just being out there, running by feel and keeping my mileage in check. I am trying to follow the 10% rule, and also trying to avoid simultaneously increasing my mileage and speed. This is all done in an effort, of course, to start my Eugene Marathon training cycle next month without any injuries. Therefore, I probably won’t post pace information on a regular basis until sometime in late December, when training begins.
Workouts for the Week:
Thursday, 11/20: Ran 5 miles.
Friday, 11/21: Rest.
Saturday, 11/22: 4 miles running (plus about .5 miles walking) on the treadmill at the gym, then Myrtl at home.
Sunday, 11/23: 3 miles running on the ‘mill, plus 20 minutes on the LateralX.
I went to the the gym with Aimee after not having run together in a while due to her work travel. We ran at a conversational pace. Good times! That LateralX is pretty fun, actually. It has a programmed workout that prevents me from getting bored.
Monday, 11/24: Ran 1.1 miles plus Myrtl.
I was supposed to meet Aimee but her alarm failed to go off, so I ran/walked up the steep-ass hill to her house and then back down again. I was too scared to run alone in the dark. I give myself credit for not crawling back into bed after this, instead making my kids’ lunches and setting up the Crock Pot for that day’s dinner.
Tuesday, 11/25: Ran 5.1 miles with Aimee and J.
I slept about 6-1/2 hours on Monday night, which is actually pretty good for me. (I know, I know. My goal is at least 8 hours per night, and I’m working on it.) Despite this, and perhaps because I slept only about 5 hours on Sunday night and was working with a sleep debt, I was extremely sluggish on this run. I trailed Aimee and J the majority of the time. Boo. I need more sleep!
Wednesday, 11/26: Rest.
Total Mileage for the Week of 11/20-26, 2014: 18.2 miles.
All in all, not a bad week, mileage-wise. My fitness felt good despite the lethargy I experienced on Tuesday. My goals for next week are to get more sleep (7 hours per night would be a nice start) and have a good time at the Tacoma City Turkey Trot 5 K on Thanksgiving. I’d love to PR, but we’ll see.
What was your best workout of the week? Do you record your workouts? Do you prefer writing them down in a journal, using Daily Mile, or some other method?
