Would You Rather…

Well, I went for a run this morning after not having run since last Saturday. I left out of my Weekend Update the fact that I started developing my old friend, Hip Flexor Pain, around Mile 3 of my run in California. After that run, I decided it would be wise to take several days off. My run today was fine until around Mile 2, when that same soreness returned and made it seem like a huge effort just to lift my left leg. Not good.

Long story short, I’m not in the mood today for talking much about running on my running blog. I’m going to take a little more time off from running and try it again next week. In the meantime, I have an appointment with a chiropractor tomorrow, and I hope she’ll be able to help me resolve the left hip dysfunction which is (I believe) the source of my recurring left hip and leg issues.

Whew. ย Not thatย that’s out of the way, let’s get on with the rest of today’s post andย play a silly game to distract me from my sad little running life!

My responses? The Fifty Shades Bear (so I can re-gift at the next White Elephant party I attend), the Wipeout Run (at least it doesn’t involve mud), and the tofu (maybe I can trick myself into thinking it’s not really mealworms).

  1. OMG! I would totally pick the toilet! are you kidding me? An dI would pick the Scorpion. At least it’s chocolate? And as far as Wipeout or Tough Mudder???? I don’t know. Maybe Wipeout because I know it is mostly funny? For other people?

    UGH. I’m so sorry to hear that. I can totally relate with the hip pain so I know it’s no fun at all. Hopefully your chiropractor can help! Random question but do you know of a good massage therapist in our area? I need to switch I think.

    Okay… now on to the game…
    I’m going with the Fifty Shades of Grey teddy bear, even though I think that’s so so disturbing that they managed to make a childhood toy dirty! I’m going with the Wipeout Run because I actually already heard about this and am intrigued to check it out. Third, I’d probably go with the scorpions, even though both gross me out!!!

  3. Definitely the 50 Shades Bear, Wipeout Run and tofu. I saw that email about the bear and saw that you can get like a 6ft one..that would be a condition…it would need to be 6 feet๐Ÿ™‚

    I hope your hip starts feeling better and you can start running again – I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  4. That toilet is just wrong in so many ways. I would rather eat tofu worms during a Tough Mudder than use that thing!

    I am sorry your hip is being a brat. I hope a chiropractor can help. Keep us posted, amiga.

    Oh hip flexor, had that, been there ouch. I was down for 3 months, because I kept trying to get back out there. I finally had to just accept what happened and heel the body. On another note, I would rather Fifty Shades Bear, Tough Mudder and Tofu. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I think that’s where I am right now. I’ve been fighting it since last June and would take maybe 2-3 weeks off at most. I think I need at least 2 months of no running at all. Did you do other forms of active cardio, though, like an elliptical, during your break?

  6. Game on! Bear, Wipeout and Meal worms. I love escargo, so I think I could convince myself I was still in the same food family.

    I have completed a couple of Muddy Buddy races and 1 Warrior Dash. All three involved a lot of mud.

    Good luck with the hip. That constant, nagging, discomfort when you run is the worst.

  7. I hope that your hip gets better. I went through a stretch a few years ago where just a hint of too much running or walking yielded significant hip pain along with a nearly dysfunctional leg I practically had to drag around. Strengthening my hip complex/glutes ended up being just the fix. Take care!

    • That’s how my leg is acting! It doesn’t happen all of the time, only when I start to get sore in that hip flexor. It’s as if my muscles aren’t engaging to lift up that leg–a very strange feeling. I am trying everything to strengthen my glutes and hammies but I still find those muscle groups don’t fire like my quads.

  9. So sorry to hear about your hip issues – I hope things heal up fast.

    Lol – those are tough options! That toilet is hilarious and how gross are the tofu and scorpion?? Ew.

    The strangest thing I’ve ever eaten was most likely when I visited South Korea. I didn’t know what I was eating half the time but am pretty sure there were some foods I would normally never eat!

    -Fifty Shades Bear (yay for re-gifting!)
    -Tough Mudder (I was supposed to do one with my brother and his friends a couple years back, but then I got accepted into grad school across the country),
    -Chocolate covered scorpion (This was a hard one, but I cannot deal with eating worms and I think it’d ruin tofu for me :[ ).

  11. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you’re having hip trouble. I hope you can get some answers at your appointment. My answers are the bear, the wipeout thing and the tofu. Though that sounds pretty hideous. Hope you feel better soon!

As to the Valentines choices, yeah, I think I will skip all those things. I feel pretty sure you can’t make me choose from across the country, so I’ll stick with getting a treat of ice cream or a cupcake๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yeah… it kind of sucks having a running blog when you’re injured and can’t run. Especially when you’re on a running team. Eek!

  13. Ugh. Sorry about your hip!

    That game is tough. I have eaten a ton of weird foods. I will try anything once. Crickets? Can’t think of any bad VDay gifts. The husband bought “me” a trailer for “our” race car for our anniversary once.

    • Wow–I’m impressed! I have extremely low weird-food tolerance. Your husband’s anniversary gift is pretty funny. It reminds me of one Christmas when my husband bought me a cookbook from his favorite restaurant, with his handwritten notes in the margins!

  14. This was funny! I’ve never done a mid run and has absolutely no desire to do one. I hate mud on me especially when it dries. And I have seen so many people slip and fall during mud runs and they come out with twisted ankles!
    Sorry about your hip. I’ve been seeing a chiro for my neck pain and he has worked wonders on me! Glad we could connect via the Grow Your Blog Hop linkup.

  15. Injuries – especially ones that come back for a visit – are the worst! Wishing you health and healing! I also like that you can turn not writing about running into a fun game! I would have to agree with you in every case!

  16. I’m sorry to hear about your hip and leg pain. My husband told me that I’m a complete witch when I don’t run so I’ve tried to be super careful not to injure myself.
    I love the bear, I NEVER want to potty with my husband, and I think I’d pick the tofu- I think I could swallow it down before my brain convinced my throat to close up!!!

  17. I know how tough it is to deal with injuries. It sounds like you’re doing everything right though my taking some time off from running and getting it checked out. I hope your hip is feeling better soon!

  18. Boo on hurting; I had PT again this morning for the second time this week and I have the bruises to prove it – ha! Ahh…whatever. The things we do. I hope you get some relief soon, because that sucks. Okay, on to important business. I’d rather have the Fifty Shades bear; I’m with ya on the re-gifting! Um, the wipeout/mudder question is a tough one; I’m going to go with Wipe Out because I’ve always said I would NEVER do a “race” involving mud or paint colors. And…I think I want the scorpion because chocolate is good on anything. Thanks for a great post; hope you have a good weekend.

  19. I would take the TwoDaLoo and use one side as a potted planter and book shelf…it would be a great conversation piece. I would do the Tough Mudder as I am way too clumsy for the other event. I’ve wanted to try the chocolate-covered scorpions and suckers with scorpions in them for a long while.

    Hope your hip is feeling better! I’m kind of in the same boat now because I’m dealing with some back tightness. It doesn’t hurt when I run, just when I don’t! I’m on vacation now but plan on seeing a chiro when I get back!

    • Sorry about your back issues! I went to a chiropractor on Friday and it turns out that my back is all kinds of jacked up. My left hip is hitched, too, which I already knew. I hope my chiro can enable me to return to running pain-free in a month.

  23. Sorry to hear about your running…my running has been suckly lately too but I don’t have any injury to blame it on. Rest up and get better! I would have to with the Fifty Shades Bear…OMG…is it almost time to watch the MOVIE!?!?! I’m still a few chapters away from the end of the book. Guess I better get to reading.
