5 Favorite Things Right Now

TGIF, party people! It’s Friday and I’m back for another Friday 5 Link-Up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Mar at Mar on the Run, and Cynthia at You Signed up for What?!

Today’s theme is favorite things, and I since it’s been ages since I’ve shared things I’ve been loving lately, this theme arrived at the perfect time.

These are the top 5 things I’ve been loving lately:

1. Albanese Gummi Bears

How do I feel about these? They are the best gummi bears I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. And I’ve been on the earth a long time, folks! Albanese gummis come in 12 flavors. My favorite is probably pineapple, which is slightly lame of me because every gummi bear company already makes pineapple-flavored gummi bears, but all of the other unique flavored (e.g., blue raspberry, watermelon) are fantastic.  We can’t keep these babies in stock at our house.

2. “Togetherness”

I love me a good HBO series, and “Togetherness” does not disappoint. This dramedy helmed by Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass is a brutally real and funny portrayal of relationships–marital, romantic, platonic, and familial. The first episode was a little awkward for me, but by the second episode, “Handcuffs,” I was hooked. I love a show that can make me laugh out loud but also cause me to get a little wistful as I reflect on my own life.

3.  Oiselle Rogas in Pop

I am this close to running again and I’ve decided to reward myself in advance. Generous, aren’t I?

I’ve been eyeing these puppies since Oiselle debuted them last month on their website, and I’m finally pulling the trigger! I love Rogas because their stretchy nature and well-designed cut make them perfect for running, TRX, whitewater rafting–you name it. And that color! Mama like.

4.  Trip-planning

I am so incredibly excited for our big trip to the East Coast at the end of this month! I’ve been booking hotels, scoping out restaurants, and making plans with friends back in DC and Maryland. I can’t wait to show my kids the sights in the District as well as in the surrounding states. I am also excited to reconnect with old friends and meeting (in real life) some new friends who I’ve “met” through blogging.  I haven’t put this much forethought into a trip since I went backpacking in Europe when I was in college.

5.  Chesapeake by James Michener

What?! This book is, like, almost 40 years old! Well, yes, but it’s new to me.

When I was a kid, my mom read James Michener novels. Now, apparently, it’s my turn. I bought this book as a change of pace from the symbolism-laden, character-driven fiction I usually read, and to prepare for our trip Back East. So far, I’m totally hooked by its stories, which follow various characters (some based on real people, such as John Smith) living around the Chesapeake Bay from the 16th to the 20th century. It’s easy-reading historical fiction–and I’m actually learning things!

What is your favorite new discovery? Planning any trips? Any new favorite running or workout gear? What book are you currently reading?

    • I’m stuck on Episode 2 of HOC Season 3. Are you farther than that? It’s really slow so far and I keep falling asleep during the episode. I’ve tried to watch it over 3 days and can’t make it through the first 15 minutes!

Yay! That’s so awesome you’re running Boston!

    • Ha! I have a lot of black shorts in my running-clothes drawer, but I love to punch up my shorts now and then with some color. Plus they’re easier to find in the drawer!

    • A fellow Albanese fan! Yes, they’re the best. I caught my kids trying to sneak some into their lunch sacks today and I put the kibosh on it. I think we need an Albanese-intervention.

  1. I really need to try out some Oiselle clothing. I hear so many amazing things about their line.
Right now, I’m loving a new Asian Veggie Burger I found in the frozen food section of my grocer. It’s my new jam. lol

  2. Yes to the shorts and LOL to the Michner – isn’t it a classic by now?! 😉 I think I read it when I was in college, and he is such a good storyteller! I hope the weather in DC is fantastic by the time you come!

  3. i need to check out those gummies! oh and a few of my restaurant recommendations that are family friendly: matchbox, ted’s bulletin, fat pete’s bbq, clyde’s, shake shack, and we the pizza 🙂

    • Yay! Thanks for the recommendations. We are definitely hitting up Shake Shack–I love their burgers and lemonade. And I ate at Clyde’s when I used to live there! So funny.

  4. I love planning vacations too. It’s so fun. We go on our first camping trip of 2015 next month and I’m so pumped! I’ve never seen that brand of gummies around here…sometimes living in Iowa sucks, there’s lots of things we don’t have around here.

    • Camping is a blast. We haven’t been in several years, but we need to go. Our kids are really missing out!

I think that Albanese is based in Indiana, so I would be surprised if they weren’t carried anywhere in IA. You can find them on Amazon, too. Good luck on your quest for the gummis!

  5. I love that you have that brand of gummy bears in your Friday favorites! A few years ago, i stopped by their factory shop on a whim while driving back from a trip to Indy. I had never heard of the brand before that stop but they have some good stuff 🙂

  6. Molly, you may start a James Michener revival – ha! I love how it’s true that “everything old is new again,” at some point; I’m so glad you’ve discovered something “new” that really coincides with your upcoming adventure. Y’all are going to have SO much fun on your trip – GAH! Okay, so I am tentatively VERY excited about your run tomorrow; you realize that you’re going to have to tweet out a message, or SOMETHING, so I’ll know how it went! I know all of your work & patience is going to pay off; take it easy out there and respect your body. Can’t wait to hear about it!

    • Thank you, Tara! I share in your tentative excitement; I really don’t want to jinx myself for tomorrow’s run. I think I may meet up with my coach and go for an easy 3-miler for my first run. I will let you know how it goes as soon as I finish!

I don’t know about starting any Michener-revival, although how funny would that be? 🙂 Reading “Chesapeake” has opened my eyes to how much I’ve forgotten (or never adequately learned) about our nation’s history.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great run this weekend with your Hot Legs group! Don’t slip in the snow/ice!

  7. I love those Pop Rogas! I bought them a few weeks ago and I also included Pop as one of my favorites today! I just feel like Oiselle made it for me! And I need to find those gummi bears. I love chewy candy!

    • If you can’t find them in a store near you, their sold on Amazon as well as the Albanese site. They’re worth paying shipping!

I love running shorts–I get bad chafing with skirts. If you feel like trying shorts sometime, you should really consider trying Rogas. They may convert you. 🙂

    • I’m trying to tame my sugar addiction, particularly since I’m not running right now. I’m going to limit myself to buying one bag every other week from now on.

  8. John @ run. geek. run(disney) says:

Great list. Yay for east coast. Hopefully you’re coming during a non snowy time. Weather has been less than ideal lately.

  9. I need to find those gummi bears! They would be right up my alley with those flavors. Do you find that the Rogas ride up at all? I have this weird thing with running shorts and I typically hate them. Yet, so many folks rave about the rogas! Well, enough people to make me curious!

    • Rogas don’t ride up on me. I had difficulty with shorts riding up when I first started running, but then I found certain styles (through word of mouth) that either didn’t do it or were less likely to do it.

  10. We did an East Coast trip during late March last year…Asheville, Williamsburg and DC. I’ve never been so cold in my life. It was so cold, windy (30 mph) and snowy in DC we had to stay inside. We were able to see a lot of the Smithsonian and really enjoyed that. But, we only saw the monuments through the car window. You could barely stand up outside! Ha! I hope you get wonderful weather on your trip!

  11. I just saved the gummy bears to my Amazon Wish List . The Oiselle spring line is looking nice, glad they brought back the Punch color and some new ones as well. Hope the weather is beautiful by the time you arrive in DC! I second Courtney’s recommendations 🙂
