5 Reasons Why I Have Spring Fever

It’s been a rough couple of days for me. An old friend of mine died suddenly, and I’m having difficulty accepting and processing it. I’m here and trying to rally because I love the DC Trifecta’s Friday 5 Link-Up and I don’t want to miss out. I think keeping busy also helps distract me from my sorrow.

My friend, Wyndall, was always ready with a smile and a laugh. He had an irrepressible spirit. He always tried to follow God’s path, and now he’s in his arms.

Okay, that’s enough sad stuff for now. I know Wyndall wouldn’t want me or others he left behind to get bogged down in sadness.

On to the link-up.

This week, Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Mar at Mar on the Run, and Cynthia at You Signed up for What?!, chose the theme “Spring!” I’ve decided to run with it and list 5 things I’m excited about for this spring:

1.  Spring Break

capitol - alsoranagainMy husband and I are taking our kids back to Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and Virginia for their spring vacation. For many years, my husband and I have discussed our desire to take the kids back there to better learn US history and government. I feel fortunate we’re able to make it a reality.

I have been planning this trip for months and am extremely excited to show my kids my old stomping grounds (as well as the historical and otherwise significant sites). I am also excited to see old friends and meet (in person) new friends Courtney and Salt.

2.  My 1st race of the year

While in Philly, I’m going to run the AT&T Back on My Feet 5-Miler. This will be my first race of the year, after DNS-ing at the Lake Sammamish Half Marathon earlier this month. I’m planning to take the BOMF 5-Miler pretty easy and won’t run for time because I’m just getting back into running. Despite this, I am so excited to be able to race again.

3.  Spring fashions

I feel so shallow saying this, but I’m really excited to wear clothes the new spring fashions. I recently bought these gorgeous SJP Carrie pumps and the world’s most comfortable work pants at J. Crew.

I think it’s awesome that the ubiquity of athletic wear for women has caused other designers to make their clothes more comfortable. Elastic waists for the win!

4.  Eugene Marathon weekend

eugene tee - alsoranagainI’m still registered for the Eugene Marathon, but because I’ve only recently returned to running, I’m either going to drop down to the half-marathon or will just run part of the full in order to pace a friend. Despite this change in plans, I am absolutely excited to go to Eugene and be involved in the weekend’s festivities. My son is going to run the 1-mile Duck Dash, which will be a blast to watch. And I’m excited to meet-up with my peeps on Team Nuun and from the Oiselle Flock! There will be a lot of us down there, and I know there will be all sorts of fun things planned.

5.  Starting strength-training with a personal trainer

As I mentioned in a post last week, I’m looking forward to starting a targeted strength-training plan with Ruth, a competitive runner and personal trainer. She has been working with my friend and massage therapist, who has noticed a distinct improvement in her running due to the wringer Ruth has put her through. I start working with Ruth in April, and I can’t wait.

What are some things you’re looking forward to this spring? Are you going on any trips? What are some of your favorite spring fashions? Are you looking forward to any spring races?

  1. I can’t believe about Wyndall. Also can’t believe how small the world is. I just remember his permanent smile. Thinking about you during this time. But…I am thrilled about your visit and can’t wait to hang out! And those shoes and pants…I need to go shopping because I’m speaking at a conference in April and you’ve just given me motivation!

  2. I am so sorry for you loss. Losing a good friend is always difficult, but especially if it came unexpected. Your spring break sounds fantastic and enjoy pacing your friend at the Eugene race. My big trip is in 4 weeks when I head to Boston to run my first Boston Marathon! So freakin’ excited!

So sorry to hear about your friend! My thoughts are with all of you. DC is a great spring break! Would love to meet up also if you had the time!

  4. I’m so sorry about your friend. That’s tough.

I’m anxious to hear how things go with the trainer. I’ve been working with mine for about 1 1/2 years and I’ve seen huge gains in my running and finish times, with 3 PRs in my last 3 race!

    • Thanks, Wendy. I will be sure to keep you advised of my progress. I hope it really keeps those recurring injuries at bay, but PRs (like yours) would be a significant bonus.

  5. My condolences, it’s never easy. I hope you have fun on spring break. I always enjoyed going to places like DC or the battlefields for the Revolution and Civil War. Seeing the fields and knowing how the terrain played into the battles gives me goosebumps.

  6. I’m so sorry to you for the loss of your friend. Prayers for comfort and understanding.
Have fun on your trip. We homeschool so all those locations are on my bucket list of places I want the kids to see before they are grown up and graduated.

    • Thank you so much!

Wow– I’m impressed that you homeschool. A friend of mine who homeschools plans educational trips for her kids, too. Last year they went to Europe.

  7. No trips this spring, but maybe in the summer. I’m looking forward to planting herbs and seeing the raspberries come out again and the fruit trees leaf out. I’m praying we actually get fruit this year. :)) The weight training with a personal trainer looks really fun!

  8. Those shoes are CUUUTTEEE!!! I do love spring fashions…since losing body fat over the winter, I am excited to go work pant and pencil skirt shopping! I am looking forward to the Cherry Blossom 10 miler. Enjoy your visits!

    • Thank you! And they’re actually pretty comfortable for being 3+ inches high.

You go, girl, with your sexy pencil skirts! You deserve it with your hard work this winter. 🙂

  9. I’m feeling sad to hear about your friend; glad you can get some support through your blogging peeps! On a brighter note, I am extremely jealous about the fact that you will be hanging out with the DC gang soon; I hope y’all have a great trip and give Courtney a hug for me! I love your new shoes and pants…hmm. Ideas, ideas. 🙂 Thanks so much for keeping us in the loop, Molly; I’ll be thinking of you.

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope his family is doing okay.

Thank you so much for the heads up on those pants! I just ordered 2 pair. I hope they fit and look decent because they look SO comfy!

  11. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful spring break! There’s certainly a lot to see and do in the DC area.

  12. Sorry for your loss. I am excited for your spring break trip – it will be so fun. Love your shoes as well! I have some items from J.Crew and Anthro that I am eyeing (funny enough… one is an eyelet skirt).

  13. We took our kids to DC last Spring Break (and Williamsburg) and it was so cold and snowed! The wind was brutal so we couldn’t see as much outdoors as we planned. I hope you will have wonderful weather. I wish I could wear those awesome shoes but must keep my heels pretty low. I’m very sorry to hear about your friend.

    • Thank you!

Your experience last year is what I fear. Right now there are a couple cold days forecast… one of which is the day of my race! I wasn’t expecting to have to wear thermal gear, but I may have to.
