I’m celebrating the fact that this is my second consecutive week of linking up with the DC Trifecta (Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Mar at Mar on the Run, and Cynthia at You Signed up for What?!) for their legendary Friday 5 Link-Up.
The Trifecta’s chosen theme for this week is “5 brands to love,” I’m putting a little spin on it to feature 5 Things I’m Loving Right Now:
Since I restarted running in early March, I’ve been wearing Hokas to run outside. I think they’re causing me to run more with a mid-foot strike (as opposed to my default heel-strike) and prevent me from over-striding. Although the sole is thick and squishy, the shoes are very light and feel relatively responsive considering their soles are at least twice the thickness of my beloved Mizunos. I wore my Hokas when I raced recently, and they performed pretty well. Although my feet didn’t turn over that quickly at the race, I think that’s due to my fitness level and not the shoe.
Three years ago, I made the life-changing decision to stop buying expensive eyeglass frames and lenses from traditional optical shops and to instead buy my glasses from Warby Parker. I wear traditional lenses (no bifocals, in other words), so my glasses at Warby Parker cost only $99. And that includes anti-glare lenses! Prior to Warby Parker, I would spend anywhere between $350-750 for a pair of glasses. Ouch.
I love that for every pair I buy, Warby Parker donates a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need. I also love that Warby Parker’s reasonable price-point allows me to get new frames every year in order to suit my fashion whims. This year, though, I ended up buying another pair of Finch frames (in a different color, however) because I think the shape of these frames suits my face well. I get a lot of compliments on my glasses and never fail to tell the compliment-giver where I bought my specs!
All hail comfortable work pants! I’ve written about these pants before, but I can’t just help myself from discussing them further. I love them because they’re comfortable (thank you, elastic waistband), stylish, and machine-washable. I can’t be the only one who’s sick of paying half my paycheck to the dry cleaner…
I have been drinking scads of Cherry Limeade Nuun lately in my efforts to stay more hydrated. I was getting pretty lax a while back with hydration, and would frequently note at the end of the day that I felt parched. Sometimes I would even have headaches.
The common advice is that one should drink 64 ounces of water per day, but apparently I was failing. I do love straight-up water (especially when it’s ice cold), but that would get a little boring after a while. Nuun the to rescue! And even better, Nuun that’s caffeinated, like my favorite Cherry Limeade.
Added bonus: I’m not spending as much money at Starbucks. Cherry Limeade is one major reason I’ve been able to stay away from my old morning standby drink, the non-fat no-whip 2-pump mocha, which I used to have at least 4 times per week.
5. Oiselle High 10 Bra
I picked up one of these babies in black at the Oiselle sample sale. I was on the fence about buying more than one because I didn’t want to try it on there, and therefore didn’t know how it would fit. So of course it fits like a dream, doesn’t cause uni-boob, and keeps things from bouncing around. I wish I could get another one, but it’s been discontinued. Fortunately, this one looks like it might be a good alternative.
What are you loving lately? What is your favorite sports bra? Running shoe? Pair of comfy work pants?
