Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine went by in a blur, but it was fun. In keeping with the somewhat frenetic pace of this past weekend, today’s contribution to the Weekend Update Link-Up, hosted by Tara, will be long on photos and short on words. Enjoy! (Oh–and please visit Tara over at Running ‘n’ Reading and, if you have a blog, consider linking up.) Saturday started with a walk and yoga with Aimee. Such a beautiful morning in the Pacific Northwest! Saturday also marked the 11th anniversary of the day I became a mother: my daughter’s birthday. I can’t believe how quickly time slipped by between this: And this: We had pedicures on her big day. I will spare you the photo of my runner-feet.
We also tried out the new Chik-fil-A, which is only the second Chik-fil-A in the state of Washington. It opened last Thursday and it was crazy busy. I liked their nuggets when I lived back east, and eating there this weekend was like meeting up with an old friend. If small chunks of fried chicken can be considered “friends.”
I also received my first Plated delivery this weekend. My friend A told me about it when I was marveling over how she has time to make such inventive meals while also working as a full-time attorney and having two young kids. Her secret? Plated, which delivers all the makings of dishes–fresh food, measured portions, and recipes–to your home. I ordered two different recipes to start out: Sesame Soy Tilapia Udon and Chicken Souvlaki with Rice. I will let you know how they turn out in a later post. In the meantime, if you’re interested in trying Plated, you can get two free plates in your first order if you use this link. (Full disclosure: That’s an affiliate link.)
I also went to a great shop-local event in Tacoma organized by Libertine Tacoma Gourmet Culinary Salts & Sugars. I am obsessed with their Yum X 3 seasoning salt after buying it at the holiday Tacoma Is for Lovers shopping party and recently ran out, so I needed to stock up. Of course I ended up buying other wonderful seasoning salts, too, including one that Libertine said would make my kids eat more vegetables!
Saturday night, I stayed up very, very late to be one of the early birds at the Lilly Pulitzer for Target online sale. I was not alone. Interest was so high that the Target site crashed even before the sale was supposed to officially start at 12:00 a.m. PST. People had somehow sneaked onto the site before it opened and were able to make some purchases before Target shut it down. It reopened for a brief period around midnight my time and I managed to buy some of the things I wanted before the site crashed again.
There were a lot of tired, unhappy, preppy women venting on Twitter that night, including me. I wasn’t able to purchase everything I wanted and, as silly and shallow as it sounds, I was pretty stressed. The demand was huge, and people were selling the things they somehow already bought on Ebay for 3-6 times the retail price. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get to my local Target store when it opened the following morning. Aimee and I had plans to run.
Come Sunday morning, however, I decided to run fewer miles than originally planned: 3 versus 7. Okay, so a lot fewer. But this was Lilly Pulitzer for a fraction of the price! I didn’t want to miss out.
I arrived at Target about 15 minutes after it opened and the clothing and home sections were already almost empty. Good thing I was able to get the clothes I wanted online! There were still a lot of beauty items available, which I wanted, as well as towels. I picked up some items for friends and also bought a few gifts, which was fun. A couple of very nice women also gave me some straw totes that they managed to snag upon the store’s opening but which they no longer wanted. Score! One for me, one for Aimee. All in all, it was a good haul… and I am now going on a shopping hiatus for the next few months. Keep me accountable, blog-audience!
Finally, we ended the weekend with my son’s 9th birthday (so old!). We not only had a party with his friends, but a family party. Are you surprised that I was exhausted by the end of the day on Sunday? What a weekend!
To celebrate the end of what has to be one of the busiest weekends I’ve had in a while, I am giving away this adorable Lilly Pulitzer for Target headband. To enter, please leave a comment below about the best thing you did this past weekend.
