Happy Friday, everyone! I’m so happy to be able to link up today with the legendary DC Trifecta Friday 5. Today’s topic? Five Favorite Songs to Pump Up a Workout. I’ve put my own little spin on it and decided to share my favorite running songs to help me kick it up a notch.
5. “Wild Ones” by Flo Rida and Sia
You know how you can organize your iTunes playlist songs according to number of plays? “Wild Ones” is pretty close to the top. Why? I love Sia’s voice and the beats per minute (127) for some reason are perfect for me when I’m racing a half-marathon pace or faster.
4. “Firework” by Katy Perry
I love this song for running because it tends to inspire me and keep me going, especially towards the end of a long run or when I’m nearing the finish line of a race.
3. “Starships” by Niki Minaj
This song helped me PR at the Eugene Half and it will always hold a special place in my running heart. Its 140 BPM always add more pep to my step when I’m starting to drag. I think NIcki Minaj’s swearing also gets me moving a little faster.
2. “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince
Lest you think only female vocals get me energized, here’s one of my long-time favorites by The Purple One. This song is definitely, but it’s also a major goody. 197 beats per minute, you guys. I mean, c’mon!
1. “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie
This one also gets pulled out of the vault–not only as one of my favorite running songs, but one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s not very fast (in fact, it’s only around 113 BPM, which according to one source makes it appropriate for running around a 13:42 mile) but it motivates me to push through the difficult parts of a run and persevere.
