2015 Running Year in Review

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

2015 was a challenging year for me, running-wise (and otherwise). I was faced with new professional challenges, as well as new kid-rearing hurdles. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that 2015 was a terrible year, it just wasn’t a good one for the first three-quarters. (Stick with me, though—it does get better.)

In January, I set forth 5 relatively modest running goals:

2015 Point Ruston Independence Day 5K Recap

The 2015 Point Ruston Independence Day 5K took place on (surprise!) July 4, 2015, in Tacoma and Ruston, Washington.

I decided at the last minute to sign up for it because my running partner in crime, Aimee, prodded me to do it. I also thought it would be a great way to participate in Nuun’s first virtual race, Run Ride Rehydrate, which I was able to participate in as a member of Team Nuun.

5 Race Day Don’ts

TGIF, party people!

I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta’s  Friday 5 Link-Up. Please check out the Trifecta’s individual blogs: Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DCMar at Mar on the Run, and Cynthia at You Signed up for What?! And If you’re a blogger, please consider linking up.

Today’s theme is “5 things about race day,” so I’ve decided to focus on 5 race-day taboos, things no runner should do on race day when running 5K or longer distances.

IMG_99755.  Don’t start in the wrong area.

If the race you’re running has corrals, start in the corral that matches a pace you can probably sustain for the length of the race. So, for example, if you’re confident you can run 9-minute miles for roughly 13 miles, by all means start in the half-marathon corral for people who intend to finish in 2 hours. But you shouldn’t line up with the corral for those running the half-marathon at 1:40 or faster. Continue reading

2015 Back on My Feet 5-Miler Race Recap

bomf 5 miler recap - alsoranagainThe 2015 AT&T Back on My Feet 5-Miler took place on March 28, 2015, in Philadelphia. I decided to sign up for it when I was planning our East Coast trip because I thought:

  1. It would be a fun way to tour a city;
  2. The distance was appropriate for my level of running fitness (i.e., low–I had to take several weeks off from January through March); and,
  3. The race benefited a great cause.

5 Races to Run in 2015

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve joined the Friday 5 Link-Up hosted by Courtney from Eat, Pray, Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run, and Cynthia from You Signed up for What?!. I’m a little embarrassed for not joining in a month (a month!), but I’m back and I’m really excited about this week’s theme!

Yes, that's a mustache. No, it's not real.
